Boosting Egypt’s Food & Beverage Sector: EEA’s Integrated Engineering Solutions

share

The food and beverage industry is a cornerstone of Egypt’s industrial development, supplying local demand while driving exports across MENA and beyond. As production volumes grow and regulatory standards tighten, manufacturers are under pressure to modernize their facilities with equipment that delivers reliability, energy efficiency, and process control.

At Egyptian Engineering Agencies (EEA), our role is to equip these facilities with integrated systems that meet industrial-grade performance standards. This blog will highlight the measurable value behind our partnerships with major food producers, such as Juhayna, MAFI, and Sahara.

What The Food & Beverage Sector Needs to Operate Reliably

Modern food and beverage facilities depend on tightly controlled thermal and utility systems. Whether processing juice, dairy, tomato paste, or dehydrated products, production lines require stable output, efficient energy use, and hygienic design standards, all while minimizing downtime and fuel costs.

Typical requirements include:

  • Reliable steam generation for cooking, sterilization, and cleaning
  • Certified components rated for continuous operation and sanitary compliance
  • Automated burner and boiler control to maintain efficiency and reduce manual intervention
  • Water treatment systems that extend equipment life and support clean discharge

EEA delivers comprehensive system packages that meet these demands, ranging from boilers and valves to automation panels and condensate recovery systems. We work with internationally certified suppliers, such as Cochran and Autoflame, providing equipment that meets PED, CE, and FM standards.

By integrating all major subsystems, we help manufacturers reduce operational risk, maintain process consistency, and comply with food-grade standards at scale.

High-Capacity Steam Integration for The MAFI Food Complex

The MAFI Food Complex in Sadat City is the largest integrated agricultural processing site in the Middle East. Designed to achieve LEED Gold certification, the 154,000 m² facility includes five advanced factories that produce orange concentrate, tomato paste, freeze-dried ingredients, and the region’s first cloudy juice line.

To support its high-throughput thermal processes, EEA, in collaboration with Cochran U.K., supplied a custom-engineered steam system delivering 60 tons per hour. This system plays a central role in heating, pasteurization, cleaning-in-place (CIP), and plant sanitation across all production lines.

Scope Included:

  • Tailored steam generation system, engineered for continuous duty and rapid thermal response
  • Custom piping layout across multiple process areas
  • Utility coordination and site-specific integration aligned with LEED compliance targets

The system was designed to deliver high efficiency, low emissions, and minimal downtime, enabling the facility to maintain consistent production while meeting export standards and sustainability benchmarks.

Turnkey Steam System with ST36 Boiler at Juhayna Foods

EEA delivered a complete steam generation and distribution system for Juhayna Foods, one of Egypt’s leading producers of dairy and juice products. The installation was executed as a turnkey package, ensuring compatibility with Juhayna’s existing infrastructure while supporting long-cycle thermal processes across multiple production lines.

At the heart of the system is the Cochran ST36 steam boiler, selected for its high output, fuel flexibility, and operational efficiency. The ST36 is purpose-built for demanding industrial environments like food manufacturing, where steam quality and safety are non-negotiable.

Key Equipment Highlights

  • Output range from 6,000 to 24,000 kg/hr, with pressure configurations up to 28 Bar
  • High-efficiency economiser for waste heat recovery
  • Equinox burner system, offering fuel flexibility and consistent flame control
  • Modular layout that simplifies routine maintenance and inspection

Additional System Components

  • Water treatment infrastructure, including softeners and a feedwater tank
  • Blowdown systems to manage TDS (total dissolved solids) and maintain boiler health
  • Integrated control panel for local operation and system monitoring

This configuration enabled Juhayna to maintain thermal consistency, reduce energy waste, and meet operational performance targets.

Automated Steam & Emissions Control for Sahara Fruit Processing

At its Sadat City facility, Sahara for Fruit Processing required a thermal system that could support consistent juice concentration while meeting strict efficiency and emissions standards. As a producer of juice concentrates, purees, and citrus oils for export markets, the plant demanded stable steam delivery and precise combustion control.

EEA supplied and commissioned a 12-ton-per-hour Cochran steam boiler, supported by a fully integrated Autoflame MK8 MM controller and MK8 EGA Evo emissions analyzer. This setup provided closed-loop control over fuel use, airflow, and emissions performance. This fully-integrated system ensured regulatory compliance and process stability.

Equipment Overview

ST36 Steam Boiler

  • Output range: 6,000–24,000 kg/hr
  • Operating pressure: up to 28 Bar
  • Integrated with Equinox burners and high-efficiency economiser
  • Engineered for consistent, food-grade steam production

Autoflame MK8 MM Controller

  • Centralized 12.1” touchscreen interface
  • Linkageless servomotor system for accurate air/fuel ratio control
  • Integrated functions: water level management, blowdown control, Modbus connectivity
  • Supports unmanned boilerhouse operation and remote diagnostics

MK8 EGA Evo

  • Continuously monitors up to 6 flue gases (O₂, CO₂, CO, NO, NO₂, SO₂)
  • Enables fuel-air trim control in real time to optimize combustion
  • Provides built-in emissions reporting for compliance auditing
  • Supports both standalone and MM-integrated operation

This configuration supports Sahara’s goal of maintaining quality and consistency in juice concentration while reducing fuel consumption and operator dependency.

ST36 Steam and Valve Package Supporting National Dehydration Facility

As part of the Future of Egypt agricultural development initiative, EEA was awarded the contract to deliver steam infrastructure for a large-scale dehydrated onion processing plant. This facility plays a crucial role in enhancing Egypt’s food processing capacity and increasing export value across the dried produce sector.

To meet the plant’s continuous processing and energy efficiency demands, EEA will deliver a complete steam package comprising the Cochran ST36 boiler, Autoflame MK8 MM control system, and ARI-Armaturen steam valves. The system is engineered to ensure long-cycle thermal stability, optimized combustion, and precision flow control throughout the dehydration process.

Engineered Systems Built for Scale, Reliability, and Compliance

The demands of Egypt’s food and beverage sector continue to grow, driven by both local consumption and increased access to international markets. At Egyptian Engineering Agencies (EEA), we support this growth with complete, certified utility systems tailored to each plant’s capacity and process profile. Through long-standing partnerships with manufacturers such as Cochran, Autoflame, and ARI-Armaturen, we offer fully integrated packages that meet performance targets and simplify operations.
